How do you make a digital wedding invitation?

Start to finish, it takes five minutes. Below is every screen in the app, in order, with nothing skipped.

3 min read Updated Getting started

Planning a wedding is busy enough. Vowlia’s job is to take part of that load off you: build the invitation, get it to your guests, count who’s coming, and gather the photos afterwards — all in one app.

Step by step#

  1. Pick your template

The app has more than 100 ready-made invitation templates. Tap the one you like and choose “Use this template”. More: choosing a template.

  2. Enter your names and family names

Your name, your partner’s name, and your family names (surnames).

  3. Set the date and time

The day and time of the wedding. The countdown is calculated from this.

  4. Add the venue

Type the name of the venue and pick its location on the map. Guests can get directions straight from the map on the invitation.

  5. Write your note to guests

A space for practical details like parking, dress code or serving times.

  6. Turn on the extras

Leave the RSVP and countdown switches on and those elements will appear on your invitation.

  7. Check all three previews

The invitation itself, the web page that opens on your guest’s phone, and the QR card you’ll put on the tables. More: preview screens.

  8. Send the invitation

Once you confirm, the app asks how you’d like to share the invitation link: by SMS or by WhatsApp. You pick people from your contacts. You can skip this step — buying a sending package is not required.

  9. Complete the payment

Payment is taken through the App Store or Google Play. Your invitation is then ready on the “My Invitation” screen.

Have these ready before you start#

  • Names — spelled exactly as you want them on the invitation
  • Family names — for the “The
 Family” lines
  • Date and time — both, if the ceremony and reception start at different times
  • The venue’s full name — guests will search for it on the map too, so don’t abbreviate
  • Your note to guests — one-line details like parking or dress code

What goes on the invitation#

RSVP

Guests reply “attending / can’t make it” and their answer lands in your list. Included on free invitations too.

Countdown

The days, hours and minutes left. Calculated automatically from the date you entered.

Map

When a guest taps the map, their phone’s navigation app opens.

Weather

A live forecast for the venue. Premium only.

After you’ve sent the invitation#

  • Your RSVP list updates as replies come in.
  • You can make your partner a co-host and manage the same invitation together.
  • On the day, guests scan the QR card on the table and upload photos.
  • Afterwards you manage and publish the gallery.

None of the templates felt right?

With Vowlia Studio you can design your own invitation from scratch.

Frequently asked questions#

How long does it take to make an invitation?
About five minutes if your details are to hand. The only thing that stretches it is deciding between templates.
Can I edit the invitation after sending it?
No. Once an invitation is created it can’t be edited. That’s why we recommend going through all three preview screens before you confirm.
Do my guests need to install the app?
No. When a guest taps the link, the invitation opens in their phone’s browser. The same goes for scanning the QR card and uploading photos — no app needed.
Do I have to buy a sending package?
No. SMS and WhatsApp packages are optional; you can share the link yourself. More: packages.
Can I use it for an engagement party too?
Yes. You create a separate invitation for each event, and each one gets its own link, its own RSVP list and its own gallery.
